DAN'S CONCISE, COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE TO NACHOS IN THE GREATER LOS ANGELES AREA

Candela La Brea
4.5/5 on Google (355 reviews)

[takeout only]

This place is a party venue in more than one way. They handle nacho business in the front (plus a variety of tacos, tequilas, and much much more!) and party business in the back. It's a fantastic bar/restaurant right on La Brea with a spacious event space in the rear.
El Cartel
Small sized plate in a small shop, but everything about this place is great. It sits right next to a performance theatre (El Rey Theater) so if you’re going to a show there, I’d highly recommend this dish with a Coke & a Coors to pregame.
Ernie's (NoHo)
I love these huge, dark, windowless warehouses that were converted to cantinas at some point in the last 50 years. Ernie's in particular makes you really feel like you've somehow traveled back in time to an obscure town in Mexico. Delicious nachos (I had the pork verde edition, photographed above), killer margs and key vibes. There was a live band playing in the back of the restaurant. LA is littered with gems like this but Ernie's is special!
El Tejano (NoHo & DTLA)
